MAE 3:
Introduction to Engineering Graphics and Design
About MAE 3
In MAE 3, students are introduced to the design process, engineering graphics, and machine design. In the first 3.5 weeks, students work individually to build and analyze a pendulum clock. In the remaining 6.5 weeks, students work in teams of 3-4 to design and construct a robot that will compete in a contest at the end of the quarter. Topics covered in the robot project include problem identification, concept generation, project management, risk reduction, and engineering analysis of simple mechanisms. Engineering graphics and communication skills are introduced through Computer-Aided Design (CAD), hand sketching, oral presentations and written reports.
Purpose of this website:
The class assignments are on the MAE 3 Canvas site. This webpage provides:
All the clock assignments and background information in a single place.
Machine design resources that can be used for the robot project, even if it is not part of a formal Canvas assignment.
